Pronunciation is your FRIEND!, How to get more people to voice your stuff
http://www.radiodaddy.com/requests/Pronunciation-is-your-FRI...
Looking around through the voice requests, it seems clear to me that there are many members that seem to forget, not everyone is from their area.
This becomes painfully obvious when street names, city names, last names, and businesses appear in a script. What is pronounced one way somewhere is pronounced completely differently somewhere else.
Example: There is a road in my city called "Monaghan Road". Here, we pronounce it "mon-a-gan". However, our Imaging Voice is from B.C., and there, they say "Mon-a-han" for the same word. We have to send the pronouncer along any time we send him a script with that in it.
Having said that, when you post a script, please remember to ADD PRONOUNCERS!!! Even for things that might seem painfully obvious to you. Better to over-simplify than have someone voice it incorrectly.
I know myself I have refrained from bothering to voice a script because I was unsure of how to pronounce something. If I'm feeling generous, I'll voice it anyway, and give it a couple of different takes in hopes of getting it right. But I do have a full-time job too, I have other things to do, so when I DO find the time to record some audio to help people out here, I'd much rather do ones that I KNOW are going to be of help to some people, not take my chances, and waste not only my time recording something that can't be used, but the other persons time, downloading something and listening to audio that does them no good as well.
